Distance will always play a factor , The shorter the distance the less it matters .

Ball spin will always play a factor , Backspin will make the ball go higher so the wind will have more effect .

Golf clubs and Balls will always play a factor , WGT Golf clubs and balls have number values for spin , distance Etc.

 Playing the wind

If the wind is straight at you or straight away from you , Add or subtract 1/2 the MPH .

                                  Example

                        The hole is 165 yards

                        Head wind of 24 MPH

                       Add 12 yards to 165 = 177

If the wind is at a 45 Deg. angle , Add or subtract 25 % of the MPH

                                 Example

                       The hole is 150 yards

                  Headwind is 45 Deg. @ 12 MPH

                              25 % of 12 = 3

                    Add 3 yards to 150 = 153

 Elevation

elevation pic.jpg

Every 3 feet of elevation equeals 1 yard in distance

Example

               The hole is 150 yards

With a drop in elevation of 30 feet

                3 goes into 30 = 10

          Subtract 10 from 150 = 140

  Example

                    The hole is 175 yards

With a rise in elevation of 21 feet

                    3 goes into 21 = 7

                    Add 7 to 175 = 182

Putting

Golf-putt-fail[1].gif

Putting is an important part of the game ,Also one of the hardest to explain.

If you are on the fringe you can chip , pitch , punch or flop the same as on the fairway .

You can use your wedge on the green if you dont like those long putts - Basically you just double the distance in yards

                           Example

If you have 20 yards to the hole

Use your lob wedge and hit it 40 yards

Note- Wind , Elevation and green speed will come into play
